Seven Year- Highworth
Sow spring. Strong summer growth and a wind tolerant climber (when tendrils are wound around a trellis). Tip vines to encourage outward growth. Young tender pods and immature seeds are eaten as a fresh bean. Leaves are eaten fresh or dried, as spinach. The delicious flowers are best eaten raw in salads. Do not eat mature seeds! Cyanide is present in the seed coat.
Since 1989, Drylands Permaculture Nursery in WA have sourced and acclimatised heirloom seed varieties to suit our semi-arid climate, and our prefernce for tasty nutritious food.
These seeds are grown in chemical-free food gardens and rarely found on supermarket shelves. They are all open pollinated.
